This panel discussion will gather representatives from Europe\u2019s public health community to explore both the opportunities and the challenges of AI in healthcare, and address one of the aims of the European Health Union initiative (EHUi),\u00a0to safeguard the future of Europe\u2019s health workforce.<\/i><\/p>\n
Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to address some of the most pressing challenges faced by Europe\u2019s health workforce. It has the capabilities to support healthcare professionals and improve health outcomes through more efficient diagnostics, treatment recommendations, improved intervention delivery, and reduced implementation costs. As health systems contend with increased demand, rising costs and an overburdened workforce, AI has the capacity to alleviate these systemic pressures. To realise the full benefits, the health workforce must be trained to benefit from these technical advancements.<\/p>\n
In a landscape of widespread recruitment challenges and chronic workplace stress, health workforce shortages have become a global concern. Innovative solutions, such as AI-enabled decision-making tools, screening aids and medical devices offer complementary approaches to traditional care delivery. However, as the inclusion of AI into health systems is currently underway, concerns include job displacement as well as emerging skill requirements, to the ethical foundations of technology development, potential litigation and the necessity of clinical validation.<\/p>\n
The integration of AI into health is a complex interplay of technologies that should provide transparent and trustworthy solutions, free from bias on the one hand, and governance structures that are globally inclusive and implementation that is flexible with the speed of development on the other. In recognition of the importance of safeguarding the future of Europe\u2019s health workforce, this event will explore both the opportunities and the challenges that come with the integration of AI in healthcare.<\/p>\n
