Over the next six months, Slovakia will thus chair the meetings of the Council, steering the direction of EU policy while acting as mediator between the Council and the European Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>The Slovak Presidency presented a programme founded on four key areas: economic Union, modernizing the single market, sustainable migration and asylum policy and enhancing the EU global role.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of health policy the Slovak Presidency will focus on\u00a0the EU\u00a0regulatory framework for medical devices and\u00a0Community Procedures for the authorization of medicinal products for human and veterinary use. The Presidency will also continue\u00a0the EU political debate on antimicrobial resistance and chronic non-communicable diseases, together with the definition of the EU position for the upcoming Conference of the Parties to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/ehma.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Slovak-Presidency-2016-Briefing.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">briefing<\/a>\u00a0on the Presidency&#8217;s Priorities is now\u00a0available.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 1st of July saw Slovakia take over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from the Netherlands.
